Just recently, artist and Odd Future member Frank Ocean published a letter he had written in the Summer of 08’, back when he was 19. In this letter, he talked about his love for a man and how Frank believes this guy was his first true love. When reading this letter [here] on FrankOcean.com, I noticed how deep Frank gets with his choice of words and how strong his feelings really where for this guy. He mentions his feelings were malignant yet he knew he was in love; he mentioned it was like being “thrown from a plane”. Having deep feelings as he did is tough when it’s something that can’t be openly accepted by everyone. Right after that post was published, reactions were immediately outpouring everywhere, both negative and positive. One of the main sources of responses came from a number of people on twitter. These tweeters were putting him down and just not understanding of the whole situation. However, a great amount of support also came from the triple F (Friends/Family/Fans). Artist, good friend, and fellow member of OFWGKTA, Tyler The Creator showed his support for Frank which surprised some people because Tyler is said to be homophobic in his lyrics. The tweet reads: “My Big Brother Finally Fucking Did That. Proud Of That Nigga Cause I Know That Shit Is Difficult Or Whatever. Anyway. Im A Toilet.” Support also was sent from big time Russell Simmons who had wrote an article about it in the Global Grind. The article read: “Today is a big day for hip-hop. It is a day that will define who we really are. How compassionate will we be? How loving can we be? How inclusive are we? Your decision to go public about your sexual orientation gives hope and light to so many young people still living in fear.” He not only has the support of all these loving cool people but he has the support of everyone here at SwayChic. We give him so much props for doing what he did and we understand how hard it might have been for ANYONE in that position. But let’s get real, he’s got it going. He’s probably the real reason why cool is in the dictionary. He got GQ rookie of the year last year [here] so he has well-known, amazing style; one SwayChic can definitely relate to. And as for music? He’s one badass lyricist. Frank Ocean really knows how to express his emotions and put them into a well rounded song that everyone will love. Aaaaand he is amazing live. Like on Jimmy Fallon singing Bad Religion.
We are definitely looking forward to more albums being dropped like the newest, Channel Orange which was released July 10th, 2012. This album is a follow up to one of his previous mixtapes Nostalgia, Ultra, released last year.
